27 March 2001, Back on Land

Hi all,

Spaceship has landed in Ft. Lauderdale!

We left Trinidad last October, sailed to Grenada, Antigua (for Christmas & New Year), Aves (A Venezuelan Island       in the middle of the Caribbean), St.John's (Virgin Islands), Culebra and the south coast of Puerto Rico, Boca       Chica (Dominican Republic), sailed the south coast of Haiti  with 35 mph winds and 16 foot following seas (Weeee!), were becalmed in the Windward passage (boarded by US Coast Guard), stopped at some of the beautiful Jumento Cays islands (Bahamas), and in February, 1500 miles from Trinidad, we anchored in George Town where a daughter, her husband and two children visited for a week of fun in the sun.  Then across the Bahama flats to Green Cay, a tiny uninhabited island no other sailors visit because it is off the beaten path.  Finally, sailed past Gun Cay and crossed the Gulf Stream to Ft. Lauderdale (Florida).

We are in a lovely live-aboard slip with pool and cable TV for a month of refitting in anticipation of sailing up the east coast.  We will try to follow spring as far north as Newfoundland, 2000 miles from Florida, and then outrun Jack Frost back down to the tropics. We just reread our 2000 letter and realized that we forgot visiting Ed's sister and husband in Solomon's Island.  They had a wedding also.  Their son married a woman from Sable Island, Nova Scotia.  She's a lovely woman with lots of red hair.  They met in a chat room on the internet. Isn't that romantic?

Love Ed and Wendy
